LAKE WALES – It’s finally football season!
The Lake Wales Highlanders will debut the 2010 varsity football team Friday night (Aug. 20) during a free 7 p.m. inter-squad scrimmage at Legion Field.
Next week, both JV and varsity teams will face the Kathleen Red Devils in the Pre-Season Highlander Classic at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 27 at Legion Field. Classic tickets are $5 for general admission, and $7 for reserved seats.
Die-hard high school football fans should pay attention to the slightly earlier start time. In previous seasons, high school games started at 7:30 p.m., but this year, Polk public high schools agreed to start all in-county games 30 minutes earlier at 7 p.m., according to LWHS Athletic Director Marvin Pavy.
LAKE WALES – Janie Howard Wilson Elementary students cashed in their Star Bucks – earned in the school’s Positive Behavior Support program – to take part in a Crafty Celebration last week (Jan. 27) that one student described as the “best celebration ever!”
LAKE WALES – Six members of the 2011 Lake Wales Highlanders football team made college commitments today (Feb. 1) as part of National Signing Day.
