LAKE WALES – When school started this week, one Janie Howard Wilson Elementary teacher could “bear-ly” contain the excitement in her classroom – but she didn’t mind.
To begin the school year, second grade teacher Demrah Frisk gave each student in her room a “reading bear buddy.” Students chose their bears when they visited Frisk during Orientation last week.
On the first day of school, their bear buddies were waiting with a special poem attached:
I’m your reading “Bear Buddy!”
Let me listen to you study.
Please read to me every night,
So you can do your schoolwork just right.
Remember I’m a gift from Mrs. Frisk,
This of you….she does insist!
Beginning Monday (Aug. 24), the bears traveled home with students at night for reading practice.
“They were so cute and excited about reading to their bears,” said Frisk.
