Principal's Message
It is with great excitement that I look forward to the 2008-2009 school year. The theme for the coming school year is going to be “EXCELLENCE”. This is something that you can expect to see in all areas of Polk Avenue Elementary. During the coming school year, the staff at Polk Avenue Elementary will be working with your students and with each other in the areas of Academic Excellence, as well as Excellence in Character.
To accomplish our goal of excellence, we will need your help. Please help us by attending parent meetings and giving us your feedback. We would like you and your child to have a positive experience each time that you are here with us at Polk Avenue. Please understand that all decisions made at Polk Avenue will have to pass the question, “Is this in the best interest of children?”
My primary role at Polk Avenue is to ensure that there is excellence in both teaching and learning each and every day. To accomplish this major function of my job, I must be in classrooms and around this campus each day to observe teaching, learning, and interact with students and teachers. As you can imagine, in order for me to accomplish this goal, it takes a lot of time while students are present. The reason I am sharing this is I want each of you to understand I will not always be available for conferences or phone calls. I will always be happy to return a phone call after students are dismissed. Please understand that if you do not make an appointment or schedule a conference, there is a good chance that I will be out in classrooms and not available.
Additionally, if you would like to conference with your child’s teacher, I ask that you schedule an appointment because instruction cannot be interrupted during the day. Each grade has time available during the week for conferences during the school day, but the days and times will vary from one grade level to another. So for your convenience, please make an appointment for conferences, otherwise you may not be able to conference with your child’s teacher on the day of your choice.

Lake Wales Charter Schools Mission Statement
The Lake Wales Charter Schools will provide a coordinated, seamless system for kindergarten through post-secondary institutions as envisioned by the policy and guiding principles for the Florida's education system. Fla. Stat. 1002.02(2)(a). The System will deliver the advantages of a large school system in a small town. The curriculum will include a choice of career paths and other educational opportunities that benefit from partnerships with local businesses providing support and mentoring.
